Surfing destinations around Puerto Vallarta
Veradero:
Located just north of Puerto Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta at its first public beach just around the corner from the Nuevo Marina lies a beach break that is sporadic and responds best to W/SW ground swells. It can get crowded when it's hitting.
Tizate:
Just north of the small but ever growing town of Bucerias, Nayarit is the town of La Cruz nestled into a little nook of the bay. Within the town there are two breaks that only hit with the right swell direction and enough size to reach the nook with enough energy and size. North of the La Cruz Marina is a fast right reaf/rock break that only hits with a big N/NW swell. Just South of the Marina is another reaf/rock break that provides both left and right hand waves, responding mostly to big NW swells but also acts up in some S/SW swells. Can get crowded but
Los Veneros/Paledon (The Wall):
A combo break about a 20 min. walk from the main road right in front of the growing development of Veneros Condos is a reef and beach break that is fairly consistent and works throughout all levels of the tide. Offering mostly right hand waves but some short lefts, it's one of the faster more advanced waves in the bay remaining significantly less busy than most of the other spots, it can get very locally busy when it's hitting.
Pools:
Right next to Paledone, a short paddle west is a fast, dangerous right reef/rock break that is very shallow and a very advanced wave that very seldom gets more than 2-3 surfers or SUPers in the water, it works best with SW swells or powerful NW swells.
Burros (Donkey):
A consistent reef break located in front of a tucked away, all inclusive resort, The Paladium. Offering both right and left hand waves Burros is a common local spot that can draw a decent crowd on a frequent bases.
La Lancha (The Boat):
One of the most consistent breaks in the bay, La Lancha is a reef/rock/beach break with two entrances from the main road. Often used as a learning wave, it can get very crowded with schools and beginners frequenting the break daily. Offering up both left and right hand waves, it responds to both NW and SW swells providing good combo waves as well.
Enclote:
Right in front of the surf town Punta de Mita at the north end of the bay is a fairly consistent longboard/SUP wave that is very mellow and often gets crowded. Working best at high tide with a S/SW swell, you'll get mostly rights here at this reef/rock break.
Bahia:
Just down the coast from Punta de Mita in front of the Four Seasons Golf Course is a fairly consistent right hand wave that responds best to S/SW swells. Mostly reached by boat, at low tide you can find your way down the coast from the town.
El Faro (The Lighthouse):
The first break outside the bay, El Faro is located at the very point where the bay and the Pacific merge. One of the more consistent breaks, it's a right hand wave that responds to both S/SW and N/NW and most swells inbetween.
